jhno is a musician and producer living in San Francisco. Since moving to the bay area from Austin, Texas in 1994, he has released a full length CD, understand, and a 12" vinyl single, Fly, on his own label, Delicate Ear Records. Several new CD's are due in 1998, including kwno, his second solo outing, and spool, a collaboration with John Ridenour of the Aluminum Group in Chicago.

jhno has produced several remixes, ranging from a Prince cover project to junglist reworkings of Ridenour's band from Austin. As a jazz pianist and keyboardist he plays frequently in the bay area, leading his own acoustic trio as well as a hammond organ group, and working with the groove jazz scene.

As a DJ, jhno plays mainly ambient and drum&bass. He produces the all-night ambient sessions at Space 964, and has a hand in several other ongoing underground events. He recently played the legendary High Resolution party at the SF Cannabis Buyer's Club, and the breakbeat weekly Trinity.

His studio compositions have been influenced lately by the experimental drum&bass tip, including Plug, Funky Porcini, Squarepusher, Spacer, and others who emphasize the incorporation of organic sounds with technology. His approach is based in a jazz improvisatory style along with the disciplined approach of electronic music engineering and legit classical composition.

jhno has worked extensively with modern dancers and multimedia producers. His music has been played on the radio around the world, and by deep listeners everywhere. It has been received and archived via resonant hyperdimensional transmission into the larger galactic community, where jhno has found loyal fans among the hive mind of insect hummers and certain plant spirit consciousnesses.

But what does jhno mean? Is it an abbreviation? jhno answers: "It is a typo of my name (john)... a slip of the fingers... the longer answer is that it is through serendipitous mistakes that new form comes inexplicably into the world... thus 'kwno' is also a transformation of 'know' - the follow-up to my first cd, 'understand'. It all makes sense eventually. :) Perhaps i will write a manifesto to set the record straight. Meanwhile, 'jhno' is my virtual self - a disembodied consciousness, a catalyst for the great being that is all music, an online presence, etc." Now you kwno...
