Dobie got his first pair of turntables back in 1982 and began cutting up anything and everything on vinyl. HipHop was his first love but punk, rock and electronica have always been a part of his eclectic musical equation. Skateboarding by day and checking out warehouse parties by night he consumed the sounds at the underground.

Dobie soon progressed to putting beats together, borrowing drum machines and learning how to program. He put out his first tune with partner Dougie - 'Give It Up' by N.S.O. came out on Vinyl Solution, Dobie got the vibe for making music and started working with N.S.O. and The Mighty Ethnicz.

In 1984 Dobie hooked up with Jazzie B down at The Africa Centre and got involved with Soul II Soul. At that time it was a certain young Howie B. that used to help them with downtime at the studios he was working in. From writing one track on their seminal album 'Club Classics Vol. 1' Dobie went on to write and co-produce their second album '1990, A New Decade'. As Soul II Soul snowballed the remixes began to flood and Dobie worked on all their 12"s and other projects from this period including The Family Stand and Teena Marie.

Then Howie B and Dobie got offered a deal with Island. Together with vocalist Diane Charlemagne they recorded an album as Nomad Soul. After only one single 'Candy Mountain', Dobie left because he wasn't happy with the way everything was heading. Nomad Soul went their seperate ways and a disillusioned Dobie found himself in the doldrums. He got back on the down low, producing material for original HipHop crew The London Posse. Gradually he began doing remixes again and to date has notched up credits with Björk, Massive Attack, Lighthouse Family, Neneh Cherry, Shara Nelson, Salt'n'Pepa, Incognito, Warren G, Bomb The Bass, China Black, Rozalla and Boo Yaa Tribe.

He got involved with Howie B again after remixing Tricky's 'Ponderosa'. Howie had startet Pussy Foot Records with Nick Young because they were tired of majors 'pussyfooting around' and they asked Dobie to do some tracks. Dobie brought in Rodney P of The London Posse and The Soul Controla as the guest rappers and released his first solo single. Featuring 'Luv 'n' Hate', 'Original Heads' and 'B-Boy Anthem' the eighth Pussy Foot release was a runaway success and put British HipHop back on the map. After a couple more killer singles came 'Basement Rock' in August 1997, the first track from his debut album 'The Sound Of One Hand Clapping'. The LP is due for release in early 1998 and features a diverse array of rappers and vocalists. Get ready - this is the year that the original head finally comes through...
